What is cupping?
Cupping therapy is a type of treatment in Traditional Chinese Medicine where suction cups are placed on the skin to create a vacuum. It is used to relieve symptoms such as muscular pain and stiffness.
How can it help with your back pain?
Whether you’re experiencing back pain from an injury or from sitting at a desk all day, cupping can be of great benefit. The cups provide a gentle suction that draws blood to the area surrounding the cup and helps relieve tension in muscles and fascia. Furthermore, the suction also pulls on the tissue to facilitate a mild stretch to the tissue.
In traditional Chinese medicine, when stagnant energy builds up in the body and block energy flow it causes tension and stiffness. Therefore by increasing circulation through cupping therapy, the blockage is released so that energy flows freely through your body again. Hence can help alleviate various types of pain throughout your system.
What are those bruises left after cupping?
The bruises that result from cupping are caused by the suction. The cup creates an area of low pressure inside itself and pulls on your skin when it’s placed on top. It creates a vacuum effect inside the cup which pulls blood out to your epidermis (the top layer of skin). These bruises will fade within several days without any treatment needed—and contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t hurt
